What to plant

OK..

I live in Zone 4a
I have a 5' by 16' strip alone the north side of my house between the house and the sidewalk/retaining wall (my yard is above the sidewalk)

I am considering

Rhododendron
Roses
Hydrangea

There is alot of foot traffic along the side walk, and a fairly busy 2 lane road on the other side..

Looking for thoughts, suggestions.....types...lol

Help!

Just from my own personal knowledge... not an expert.
Hydrangeas are a shade plant so if it's a shady side of the house then go for it. If not... they won't like it there.
If it's a fairly sunny or part sun part shade spot Roses might do well.

Rhododendrons in my personal experience are VERY fussy. I like in zone 6a and can not seem to get the to grow.

That being said.... I could come up with LOTS of other ideas if I knew a little more about the area you are discussing. How much sunlight does it get? What's the soil like there? How much moisture does the area get? Is this a humid or arrid climate?
